UNSPOKEN JOY
Secretly, millions of people all over the world are experiencing quiet moments of peace, joy, love, and even ecstasy, right now. And they are speaking not a word of it to anyone. This occurred to me as I enjoyed yet another ecstatically beautiful Texas morning, knowing that most people do not even associate Texas with beauty. I thought about how difficult it often is to speak of joy, love, and moments of grace, for fear of criticism, ridicule and jealousy. We feel safe when we tell of our suffering, fear and injustice, eliciting sympathy and commiserating…and besides, who in their right mind would be jealous of suffering? Tell someone of your joy, however, and you are vulnerable…open and available for doubt, envy, criticism and ridicule. It takes great courage and confidence to speak of the precious moments, to let others know that difficulty does not permeate each moment of every day. For some of us, our self-image requires that we maintain an appearance that matches what we want others to believe. We simply cannot "blow our cover" and reveal our secret moments of comfort and serenity, for fear we may become the proverbial "sleeping dog" left to lie alone and unloved. Over time, however, as experiences of joy, love and peace expand and deepen within us, we are compelled to share this abundance with others. Grace quietly reaches a higher level until gratitude inevitably spills over, spreading healing light throughout the Universe. Joy is alive and spreading, now. Catch the wave.
