THE GROWING SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS
The Trans-Siberian Orchestra travels the globe year round performing a rock opera that promotes the idea of celebrating the spirit of Christmas throughout the year. Many of us have found, on the other hand, that the true meaning and message of the season is lost in the glitter and the glitz of commercialism's growing spread throughout our cities and across our calendars. To free ourselves from the cynicism that the latter perspective can bring, we must look beyond appearances in search of the emerging wisdom and goodness in each and every event in our lives. What if the commercial promotion of Christmas were to spread ever further back into November, October, September, until it finally meets itself at year's end on December 25th? Would this mean that the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's dream of Christmas year round had come true? Could we be finding once again that a spirit of goodness is surfacing through something that on the surface appears to be empty and wrong? Is it possible that Faust's devil was truly blowing his cover when he said, "I am one who would evil ever do, and yet ever does the good"? The face of greed could indeed be hiding the face of good. Though clumsy and misguided at times, we human beings have a way of doing the right thing, even if for the wrong reasons. Christmas may be seen as preparation for the birth of the Divine Child in each of us. Focus on this birth right now in your own heart, let this be your Christmas gift to the world.
