We Just Keep Getting Better!

It's not just an idea. Improvement is ongoing in the human species, and always has been. It is the problem-focus and "badfinding" that makes it appear otherwise. Want some data? Check out this amazing video that shows positive health and wealth changes over the last 200 years. The big picture perspective is always more optimistic, and it uses more of your higher brain functions--which is good for your brain health!

Optimism about yourself and the entire world is absolutely essential to a high quality, constantly improving life. I'm not suggesting that you ignore anything...just look at it all and find the good! Getting better is what we do, all of the time, no matter what. Even when it seems clear that someone is going straight downhill, their entire system is involved in a massive effort to correct the process and turn it in a positive direction. Get connected and lined up with the ongoing improvement within and all around you, and you will be amazed at the good that will start to flow abundantly into your life.

Motivated By Love

Daniel Pink's new book entitled, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us cites research showing that we are motivated...not by reward and punishment as we have believed, but by three things we love the most. Here is what apparently drives us:

  1. Autonomy--the love of doing your own thing. This can also be seen as the love of freedom.
  2. Mastery--when we are free to do our own thing, we love to get good at it. You know the feeling of mastery? Of course you do...we are all masters in the area of our chosen passion. (And by the way, this has nothing to do with what anybody else thinks of your results!)
  3. Purpose--this is where we rise to the highest and best in our heart and soul. We want to make a difference, make a contribution. We are good, and this book proves it in many surprising ways.
So...as much as you can, in as many ways as possible, do what you want to do. Do it enough that you get really good at it, and make sure it's connected with a sense of purpose that has meaning and value for you. Then you will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, optimistic and committed to your life's work!

Examples of this from Pink's book include
open source technology such as Linux--a major competitor to Microsoft Windows and currently used by over 50% of world businesses, and Wikipedia, now the largest encyclopedia in the world. People who power open source software do not get paid--they are motivated by autonomy, mastery and purpose.

Awesome, Funny & Goofy Stuff

Let's start with this video compilation of some amazing human beings just like you and me...uhhh...sort of. While most of us wouldn't consider trying any of that, it's still inspiring to know that anyone can do it! Now check out nature's art work on this frozen lighthouse and this walking ice creature. And while we are in awe of nature, take a look at these amazing electron microscope shots of everyday items--what an awesome world we live in! If you've never been to Yosemite in the winter, this video of ice frazil will make you want to--but dress warm!

Now let's finish up with the best medicine--laughter! First we have Dustin Hoffman selling Volkswagens--with his star qualities shining! I think you'll also enjoy Einstein the parrot as he shows off his amazing vocabulary and ability to interact. And now for the goofiest of all...a compilation of Seinfeld clips guaranteed to bring up some chuckles and maybe even a few guffaws!
