Awakening Joy Everywhere

Your joy is awakening of its own accord, and if you choose to, you can help by awakening joy everywhere. You were born joyful, and your deepest desire is to return to joy. This is the human condition, however far astray we may seem to go at times. While this might seem frivolous or light-weight in view of the many serious issues of our time, it is in fact the most important endeavor you could possibly undertake. When you're truly joyful, where this emotion is emerging from the core of your being, you are wiser, kinder and healthier than at any other time. Joy is serious business.

You were born into the joy of being, then you, like the rest of  us, got caught up in the joy of doing...a wonderful yet far less stable resource for this emotion that is the heart of love and goodness that defines humanity. As your performance fluctuated, your joy ebbed and flowed, and may have disappeared under disappointment, pain, fear, frustration, anger or some combination of these. Yet these emotions that came to occupy so much of your attention are simply how you feel, while your joy is who you are. Now it's time to return to your joy, to awaken this sleeping exuberance, exhilaration and enthusiasm that are nothing less than your true nature. Use the power of your mental focus to find the good in yourself and every detail of this magnificent world, every moment of every day, and you will find your joy awakening joy all around you.

The Powerhouse Of Optimism

The third part of the Goodfinding journaling process introduces you to optimism, the process by which you literally create your own future. As you may recall, these are the three steps by which you create your own reality:

  1. You have some kind of theory about the future. (The optimist's theory is, "good things are coming," and I highly recommend it!)
  2. You have a strong desire to be right about your theory. This is human nature. This step is automatic and unconscious and requires no thought.
  3. Because you want to be right, you will look for evidence to support your theory. If you're optimistic, this means you will be a Goodfinder, looking for those good things that you expected to come.

The third step is the process by which you actually create your own personal reality. The irony here is that if you have a theory that bad things are coming, you will look for evidence to support that also, thereby unconsciously creating a future you don't want. For example, if you buy the theory that aging means increasing illness and decline, you will look for evidence to support that theory, and unintentionally contribute to the future you fear. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by being optimistic. Be an optimist, expect the best, and look forward to great things. This greatly increases the likelihood of positive results. As you do your Goodfinding journaling, write, "I look forward to..." and fill in the blank with things like, "feeling better every day," "getting stronger and smarter with each new experience," and "expanding my capacity for joy and love for the rest of my life."

All About Feeling Good

Here come some fabulous videos and stories to lift your spirits, make you smile, and amp up your optimism! Let's start with this amazing performance by four incredibly talented young people performing "The Cup Song." Kurt Hugo Schneider, the producer of that video also did this Coca Cola ad, with more wonderful, joyful music and percussion. Now, prepare to be moved and touched in an entirely new way...this shadow dancing performance actually got a standing ovation from the judges on Britain's Got Talent. Enjoy the beautiful and mesmerizing experience of the "Adrift" timelapse video, and for another timelapse experience, watch this highly creative couple show their view of preparing for parenthood that is nothing short of delightful. While on the subject of parenting, enjoy this fun video about Things Parents Teach Us. And as a living testimony to good parenting (as well as great teachers and his own powerful determination) watch this autistic 6th grader giving a speech to his class, in which he thanks his classmates for not bullying him or making fun of him. If you're feeling limited in some way, watch this visually challenged elder creating amazing art, and learn how 90 Somethings Are The Sharpest Ever. And discover how positive thoughts boost health, build skills and improve work performance, as you consider how positive this blind golfer has to be to play well! Now let's conclude with some pure fun as we watch some very surprising elevator music, this water jet pack show, the best dog tricks ever, and the kittens' first day outside.
